Hanover Chamber Monitors Status of Senate Bill 936
The Hanover Chamber is closely monitoring the status of Senate Bill 936 (S.B.936), or the Prescription Drug Formulary bill, as part of our ongoing commitment to advocacy. S.B.936 was a topic of discussion during the February Legislative Roundtable and we continue to follow its progress as it pertains to the state opioid epidemic that we feel here in Hanover.
This legislation would implement a workers’ compensation drug formulary in which doctors writing prescriptions that are not FDA-approved or otherwise demonstrated to be effective must at least explain why the prescription is necessary for the patient. Drug formularies have been shown to address overuse of and addition to prescription drugs among injured workers.
This legislation will build on the work that’s already been done and help injured workers avoid the pitfalls of the overprescribing of opioids.
The Hanover Chamber has encouraged our local legislators to vote in favor of the bill through personal calls and memos, and President Gary Laird has also signed onto a letter in support of S.B.936 drafted by the PA Chamber of Business and Industry. (Read the letter here.)
The Chamber will continue to follow the progress of S.B.936; you can stay up to date through the PA Chamber of Business and Industry, and learn more at our upcoming Roundtable on Friday, May 4.
