Update 03/14/13
In partnership with the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce and the Borough of Hanover, the York County Economic Alliance is staffing the Main Street Hanover initiative. As such, Katie Caples has been named Manager, Development and Main Street Hanover and we have added a team member, Jennifer Herfel, to serve as Development Coordinator.
We are in the process of applying for Main Street designation with the PA Department of Community and Economic Development, a lengthy process that will provide credibility to our program and preference as we utilize state funding programs for downtown revitalization projects.
We are currently working to develop a Committee structure, as follows:
- A Steering Committee will serve as the advisory board for Main Street Hanover. The Steering Committee will meet in late March to approve the mission statement, determine priorities moving forward and provide strategic direction.
- Three subcommittees will be formed, which include Design, Promotion, and Economic Restructuring. These subcommittees will begin meeting in the coming months. Please consider participating in one of the three subcommittees listed, as we will be reaching out to our volunteer base to populate the committees. If you are interested in serving on a specific subcommittee, please email me with your preference.
Over the past few years, the community has made considerable progress in laying the groundwork for the Main Street program. If you would like a more detailed outline of the progress made and the areas of focus moving forward, please read the Main Street Hanover chapter of the Economic Development Plan for Hanover Borough and Penn Township.
We encourage you to remain engaged and optimistic about the future of downtown Hanover. Please be patient as we build this program of work and Committee structure. Your continued support is vital to the success of this program.

The Hanover Chamber and Main Street Hanover continue to focus on Downtown Hanover. In fact, Main Street Hanover applied for a $30,000 grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development for building facade improvements in Downtown.
The façade grant program compliments Main Streets low interest loan program for property owners interested in painting, masonry work, replacement of doors, windows and signage. Property owners meeting the grant criteria can obtain a $5,000 grant per property to help off-set expenses providing an incentive to invest in improvements to their property.
In addition, a number of meetings have been coordinated with developers and commercial real estate firms to tour downtown buildings to discuss reuse of certain buildings that could lead to future investment in downtown properties.
