Hanover High School, Class of 2023

On Monday March 13, Hanover High School welcomed Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill of PA Senate District 28. Hanover Public School District has a strong workforce development program that Senator Phillips-Hill got to experience firsthand. On a tour of the school, specifically focusing on the workforce development programs, she spoke with students who currently take these courses. The students spoke on what they do during the classes, how it is preparing them for their future, and how it has impacted their day-to-day lives. Some students even got the opportunity to share their current projects with Senator Phillips-Hill.

Superintendent Dr. John Scola, Principal Marc Abels, and Transition Coordinator and Diversified Occupations Instructor David Harnish presented the 30+ elective courses that Hanover High School offers for hands-on learning and career preparation, along with the 10 credentialing and certification programs. They emphasized the certifications and credentials that can be earned through these programs, such as NIMS, NOCTI, and OSHA 10 certifications, and Hanover Area micro-credentials for several other courses. Additionally, they spoke of the Drone Pilot Training course where students can earn their Federal Aviation Administration Drone Pilot License.

Mr. Harnish highlighted the opportunities that students have to gain real-world knowledge and connections in the local Hanover Area through these courses. The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce works closely with Hanover Public School District to help develop and improve the workforce initiatives. The school, local businesses, and community connections that Hanover has is what makes their programs such a success.
