NIMS Training Prepares Future Workforce
In August, local businesses and educators engaged in a 40-hour National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) training course sponsored by the Hanover Area Apprenticeship program. The training was held at Elsner Engineering Works.
This training provides business mentors and high school instructors with the necessary skills to develop future machinists. Machining is a high demand occupation with as many as 45% of skilled machinists facing retirement over the next 3-5 years. NIMS sets industry skills standards, accredits training programs that meet their requirements, and promotes innovative solutions, such as competency-based apprenticeship, to connect credentialed and work-ready individuals with employers.
